The Parvus Challenge

On February 26, 2007, Dr. Dirk Parvus (or as I like to call him, "dad") sent out a proposal to me and my sisters; basically, my Uncle Phil will be running his 30th annual Comrades Marathon in South Africa in June of 2008. The "Challenge" is to train and run the following races (click on each race to go to its website):

a.)
The
2007 Philadelphia Half Marathon on November 18, 2007b.) The 2008 Walt Disney World Marathon on January 13, 2008
c.) The 2008 Comrades Marathon on or about June 15, 2008

He attached a training schedule that begins on May 1, 2007.

After injuring myself last year because I didn't train properly for (and therefore couldn't run) the 2007 Disney Marathon, I've made a commitment to accept "The Parvus Challenge!"

I'll be using this blog to keep myself on track as well as to update you with how the training is going and hopefully share with you anything I might learn along the way.

I'll leave you with this quote from one of the greatest runners of the 20th Century, Emil Zatopek:

"If you want to win something, run 100 meters. If you want to experience something, run a marathon."

So good to find another blogger with the same goal as I. I was planning to run Comrades this year, but a rather serious ankle injury ruled me out. So next year it is. Good luck for your training, and hopefully I'll see you on the road next year, somewhere between Pietermaritzburg and Durban.
